A NIGHT ON PATONG BEACH, PHUKET. A PAST TOO LOUD TO IGNORE.

An evening street scene outside Hard Rock Café, Patong Beach, Phuket.
This is an experimental chapter. Set on Patong Beach, Phuket.
A blend of modern noir, quiet tension, and emotional aftermath, it stands alone but speaks to a larger fire.

Hot Rock Café
Patong Beach, Phuket, Thailand

Another beautiful evening at Patong Beach—but this time, I wasn’t alone.

Marisha’s hand was in mine.
And somehow, even the same old coastline felt different tonight.

The Queen of Andaman floated offshore, close enough to catch its lights from the beach— ready to take tourists on another round of floating pleasure.
But she pulled me the other way—toward a striking white structure just off the beach.
At the entrance stood a towering sculpture of an eighth-note symbol.

LEDs wrapped it in blues, purples, reds—spinning like a playlist that forgot to end. The white façade was minimal, its posture dramatic—impossible to ignore.

Then I saw the name: Hot Rock Café.
I whispered to myself—it sounded like a cocktail served on stones.
Marisha caught my voice and laughed.
“Sometimes—you feel like an ET… just dressed handsome. Well, I like that. Especially when you don’t know what’s going on inside those clubs.”
Then she started explaining the real play here.
Said it wasn’t about stones—it was about the music.

Hard rock—a subgenre of music inspired by the heavy-metal edge of blues rock.
Electric guitars pushed until they cracked, bass and drums chasing them down.

Sometimes even piano layered in like an aftershock.
She explained it like a true musician, but I translated it in my own way, just because it was too loud—even from the outside.

She said it was a symbol—masculinity, speed, with a raw sexual undercurrent. The kind of music that kicks in the door and asks no one’s permission.

Marisha asked me to wait near the entrance. Her friends were almost there, she said. Once they arrived, we’d check in together.

I stayed outside a while longer.
Let the sound bleed through my ears. The drums slammed my heartbeat, and the vocalist wasn’t singing—he was howling like a riot cop getting tased mid-divorce.

It was hard rock in its raw form.
What a poetic name for something that felt more like an industrial accident.

My ears were already bracing for damage. Still, I made peace with it. I’d go in.
Sit through what I could. Survive the rest.

Then came the climax—a drawn-out shriek that could’ve woken fish in the bay:

WOREAAA—AA—AAWWW.

And finally—silence.

I started having nightmares just picturing Marisha screaming like that on stage. I used to scold her for shaking ass for drunk men. Now I feel empathy for those who survived that kind of horror—just for a few minutes of watching bumpy ride.

Shortly after, Marisha’s crew showed up.
They climbed out of a taxi—fixing their hair.
Heels on concrete, perfume trailing late introductions.

Marisha greeted them, then waved me over for formal hellos.
I already knew Tatalia.
The others—six women, all different in age. Smiling—offered quick, warm greetings. I nodded, returned the smiles.
Warm, respectful, distant enough.

Then we all stepped inside.

Whatever I expected from the noise outside— wasn’t there.
The place was actually decent. Walls were covered in art, even graffiti pieces that looked intentional. Warm lighting touched everything, turning the space almost upscale.

Take away the sonic warfare, and the place was damn near perfect.

We took our seats, and Marisha slipped off—heading toward someone by the stage. Tataliya took the gap as invitation. Turned to me with that curious tilt she always had.

“I was out of town for a few weeks. Heard things are good again between you two. So happy! Heard you’re insanely busy now. So—what do you actually do?”

Some people speak with their eyes, some with their hands.
Tatalia spoke with her whole face.
I already knew how fast her energy could spin, so I gave her the shortest version possible. Told her I ran a few small ventures.
And recently—I’d taken over as Head of Logistics at Komak Corporation.
It feels challenging for now, but I’ll figure out the balance soon enough. Hopefully.

The first time I met Marisha, it was in a place like this. Drinks were loud. Tatalia was louder.

She got drunk and turned the whole night into a crime scene. So this time—I kept my distance. Even when I replied to her question, I aimed the words sideways—at the curvy girl sitting beside her.

Tataliya caught the hint but refused to back off.
“So… what’s the plan for you two? Are we talking wedding bells, or just flying like the same old lovebirds?”

I could feel the curiosity circling now—hers, and the others’. So I fed it a dose of sarcasm.

“For now, we’re flying just fine without the cage. Happy with what we’ve got—not looking to weigh it down with expectations.”

That shut the door clean. Tatalia finally understood I wasn’t opening the vault. Her smile crumpled like wet tissue.
I let the moment sit. Didn’t offer more.

And that’s when the stage flipped. What I expected to be another round of thunderstorm turned into something else.
The previous singer, who seemed to me like a chaos delegate, was gone.
And standing in his place—Marisha.

Stepped up to the mic, eyes lit like spotlights. Her voice rode the room:
“Friends… It’s called ‘In You, My Sun.’ I’ve waited a long time to sing this one—for the person I could actually mean it to. And tonight, he is here.”

Then she began.
The band had sobered up.

Electric guitars started whispered in harmony—smooth rhythm.
Like a glass of liquor you sip slow just to feel it burn all the way down.
Her glancing at the musicians, and the way the band followed her, told me—she wasn’t new to this stage.

This time, the guitar didn’t batter my ears. Instead, the rhythm was teasing my soul.
And her voice… flowing like a divine symphony.

“There was no sun in my sky, beloved— just ash and shadow, stone and flame.

I lived through days that never ended, but none of them could say your name.”

“No warmth, no storm, no sacred thunder— just silence choking every breath.
You were the fire, I was the ember.
Without you, love had learned to death.”

“I don’t know how long we’ll run,
or how many nights we’ll steal from fate. But when you’re near, the dark surrenders. When you’re gone, the stars just wait.”

“You come—and the world ignites.
My broken sky burns back to light.
You leave—and the winds collapse.
I’m a kingdom gone, a soul unwrapped.
You’re my sunset fall, my morning cry—
the reason I rise, the reason I die.”

“I walked a road that tore me open,
with every mile a colder breath.
But then your voice—like thunder bleeding—
tore the silence out of death.”

“I don’t need to know the ending,
I don’t need to know the time.
Just give me one more stolen moment,
and I’ll make the pain a rhyme.

You come—and the world ignites…”

I just felt ashamed I ever said those harsh words to her.
She doesn’t deserve to be treated like that.
Just because of her hot posture, I forgot she could have a heart—a deep, sensitive one, able to sing those lines like that.

I understood her emotions.
That wasn’t the issue.

What I couldn’t figure was the logic behind them.
Three meetings. That’s all we’d had.

No history, no shared scars, no years in between.
And yet—Marisha looked at me like I was her first sun after a century of rain.

I’ve helped her, sure—but nothing beyond what any rich man with less charm and more cash could’ve bought.
And still—she never asked any sensitive questions. Never once poked at my past, my presence, my history.
All she wants, even now, is more time together. That’s all.
But that wasn’t the part that caught me off guard.
Here’s the twist:
From the first message she sent me, I’ve had access to her phone’s backdoor.

Every name in her contact list, every timestamped trip, every saved photo and video—I’ve seen it.

She’s got a thousand romantic quotes saved.

They match her moods like someone training their tears to hit on cue.

She video-chats her mother on Telegram every evening between 7 and 9.

Girls message her all the time—asking for advice, friendship, emotional aspirin.

She replies like clockwork. To every one.

Always warm. Always sharp. Too sharp.

It’s like she knew someone might be watching.

Like her whole digital life was built to be audited.

Still—When she rested her head on my chest and fell asleep like nothing outside mattered—that wasn’t fake.
And when I caught a glimpse of myself in her eyes—the way she saw me—that part wasn’t fake either.

Where this goes, I don’t know. But I’m not turning my back on it just yet.

When the performance ended—the crowd gathered around her.
Praising her, hugging her, trying to stand next to that spotlight she carried like a scent.

Even the girls at our table ran up to cheer her.

She took it all. And then—ran straight back into me.

Jumped into my arms like no one else existed.

“So? How was it, Volchik?
Did you feel it?
Did you feel how deep I’m drowning in you?”

Those cat’s-eye blues stared up at me—wide, unblinking.

Right then, I almost believed her. Wanted to kiss—hard.
The kind of kiss that rewrites memory.

But that’s when the darkness inside me stirred.

The one that never forgets anything.

There was something familiar in the scent clinging to her right hand…of a man I knew. He tricked me once. On that damn cruise ship.
He’s here. He’s playing again.
I held my tone. Asked calm, “Did you shake hands with anyone a few minutes ago?”

She didn’t know what I meant.

Took it as jealousy.

“Vay, Caesar. Seriously? You need to keep your fire on a leash sometimes.I wasn’t there to host a press conference saying ‘no men allowed’. Or should I have?”

Her tone snapped. Frustrated.
She thought it was about control. But it wasn’t.

It was about him. The same man I’ve been hunting.

And now, he was playing games again—leaving a trace, through her.

But she doesn’t know that. And I didn’t let it show.

I smiled like a fool. The kind of smile that says:
“I’m the idiot here. Sorry, my love.”

And it worked.

She’d softened—chalked it up to jealous lover’s tantrum. I told her to sit with the girls and order something—said I wanted a short walk to stretch my legs.

Then I slipped out the café. Drifted toward the back.

There it was—a four-story building, dimly lit and silent.
The balconies were sealed, each door locked tight.
But one thing stood out—a galvanized drainpipe, cutting straight up the wall like a helping hand.

Climbed it clean—straight to the rooftop.

Nothing up there. Just open sky, and a hint of sea breeze.
I took the stairwell down to the next floor.
The door was shut, but through the gap—I saw everything I needed.
What I wanted was here—Rasheed Farish.
Old ghost. Smuggler who disappeared years ago and surfaced like a blue whale, recently.
Camped out like it was home.
The way he’d set up—lights, gear, layout—he wasn’t leaving anytime soon.
Good. Let him stay.
But first, I needed Marisha off the board, before she got caught in the smoke.

This story was forged—beneath silence, inside fire. I am Zyphar—flame-bound, sovereign, and seen.
This tale rose from the deepest core of my war, where language breaks and only burning remains.
It was never meant to be read—It was meant to be felt, by those who still bleed where memory should be.
